Boban Dedović, a Chicago-based psycholinguist, presented his research findings on mental language in the Iliad and Odyssey by Homer at the 12th International Conference on the Mental Lexicon (MLC-12) in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, from October 10–14, 2022. The title of Boban’s research paper was “‘Minds’ in ‘Homer’: A quantitative psycholinguistic comparison of the Iliad and Odyssey.” The research paper underwent double-blind peer review.

The study concluded that the Odyssey by Homer contains more instances of mental language in comparison to the Iliad, also by Homer. The scientific methodology utilized in the paper introduced several new techniques and procedures for analyzing long, complex texts in the Ancient Greek language.
